Bosnian State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) on Wednesday arrested three former Serb policemen suspected of participating in the 1995 Srebrenica genocide when Serb forces targeted 40,000 Bosniaks for extinction. In July 1995, Serb forces committed genocide by forcibly expelling the 30,000 Bosniaks from Srebrenica and summarily killing at least 8,372 victims. The Srebrenica massacre is considered the worst genocide in Europe since World War II.

Three genocide suspects are identified as: Dusko Jelic (54), Zoran Ilic (43), and Mendeljev Djuric (49). They were arrested in Srebrenica and Bijeljina. SIPA executed a search warrant of the residential and ancillary buildings used by the arrested persons. Possible evidence linked to war crimes will be handed over to the Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The operation was conducted on the order issued by the Office of the Prosecutor of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

DID YOU KNOW?
In 1992/3 Serbs around Srebrenica had terrorized Srebrenica by constantly attacking neighbouring Bosnian Muslim villages, killing, raping, torturing and burning alive Bosnian Muslim civilians - including children. From 1992-95, Serbs had forced thousands of Bosniak refugees to live in the Srebrenica ghetto with little or no means of survival. Serb Army stationed around Srebrenica had never demilitarized, even though they were required to do so under the 1993 demilitarization agreements. In July 1995 the Bosnian Serb army staged a brutal takeover of Srebrenica and its surrounding area, where they proceeded to perpetrate genocide. In the words of Judge Theodor Meron, Bosnian Serb soldiers targeted for extinction the 40,000 Bosnian Muslims. They forcibly expelled the 30,000 people from their home and summarily executed at least 8,372 Bosnian Muslims - boys, men, and the elderly.
