HATE CRIME: SERBS DESECRATE MUSLIM GRAVEYARD NEAR SREBRENICA

graveyard of Bosniak victims who were killed in the first
days of the Bosnian war, in May 1992.

Sarajevo daily "Avaz" reported that Muslim graveyard of Bosniak civilians was desecrated. Graveyard "Veljaci" contains remains of thousands of Bosniak women, children and elderly slaughtered by Serbs during the 1992 ethnic cleansing campaign of Bratunac and Srebrenica. Before 1992, Bratunac was an ethnic Bosniak majority municipality..'"Avaz" reports that Muslim headstones were desecrated and placed on top of each other to simulate Christian crosses.. In the vicinity of the cemetery, where the incident occurred, there were 34 'tabuts' (coffins) with the remains of victims, most of them women, elderly and children.
Coffins were delivered from Tuzla last night in preparation for a funeral of newly identified victims found in mass graves around Bratunac.. Serbian media reported that four Serbs were arrested in connection with this hate crime. They refused to publicize their names, but said that people in question confessed to the crime. It remains unclear whether they will be prosecuted.
